SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES
Jigsaw Pirates

This activity will be timed for purpose of rigor and efficiency. Team effectiveness will be benchmarked. Participants are allowed to be seated at random in the room. However, there are pieces of a puzzle that are marked for each of them and these are placed in the room which they have to locate. Once located, they have to look for the remaining pieces which form a bigger picture. These other pieces are held by the other participants. The objective is to get everyone who holds part of the bigger picture to get together, work together, form the picture and get seated in their new groupings. The team that can successfully get this done in the shortest possible time may be rewarded.

Learning elements – Accountability, adaptability, clarity, commitment, communication, leadership, organizing skills, ownership, planning, proactivity, responsibility, rigor and team effectiveness.

W/OW Circle

This is an excellent pre-event activity that enables all team members to get to know each other better, especially after a long absence of in-person interaction. Team members are seated in clusters of 4 to 5. They take turns to share one element of work that is working and one element outside of work that is working. If nothing is working in their lives, they can even make-believe. They also share one element they want to get out of the event. A spokesperson than shares the summary of their discussion in the room. This process cuts borders amongst everyone present and sets each of them to speak up as early as possible in the event. This also empowers team members get to know each other better in a safe environment and start taking ownership.

Learning elements – Clarity, communication, creativity, espirit de corps, focus, openness, ownership, proactivity, rapport / trust, rigor, self-awareness and team effectiveness.

Team Dynamics

Formation of team based on leadership, team name, team values, team flag with their own unique symbol and a haka war cry. Once we have established the formation of team, we can move all teams through the other three major stages of team development ie Storming, Norming and Performing. Every major process following this is designed to specifically draw out important lessons from each stage of the team’s transformation into a high performing team. Here, we can easily incorporate a tee-up for the relevant night activities as well.

Learning elements – Accountability, clarity, collaboration, commitment, communication, creativity, esprit de corps, leadership, openness, organizing skills, ownership, presentation skills, resourcefulness, responsibility, rigor and team effectiveness.

Rollercoaster

This activity is designed for team members to work together and manage their resources while focused on a common objective. In this case, the common objective is the construction of a specially pre-designed rollercoaster. This is an engrossing activity with a high degree of teamwork and creativity. It promotes leadership and involves all team members at the same time. The activity can be modified to variants that can include a ‘corner’ version or even a ‘speed’ version with added learning.

Learning elements – Accountability, adaptability, collaboration, commitment, creativity, decision making, esprit de corps, focus, leadership, organizing skills, ownership, planning, presentation skills, problem solving, resourcefulness, responsibility and team effectiveness.

Lightning Mcqueen

This activity is designed as an immediate follow-up to Rollercoaster. As soon as the rollercoaster is assembled, teams put their construction to the test and race an object along their constructed design. The team that records the best time wins while the rest of the teams continue to improve on their construction. This is an engrossing activity with a high degree of fun and excitement. It promotes overall team bonding and involves all team members at the same time. This element is essential as a set-up towards Grand Rollercoaster.

Learning elements – Clarity, commitment, esprit de corps, focus, leadership, organizing skills, ownership, planning, presentation skills, problem solving, resourcefulness, rigor and team effectiveness.

The Seven Seas

This is a powerful business simulation whereby teams represent specific kingdoms during the old centuries and they compete with each other to emerge as the wealthiest kingdom in the Seven Seas. Team members take on specific roles of captain, navigator, chamber master, treasurer and negotiators as they strategize to negotiate and trade with other kingdoms on resources such as silk, oil and spices. The full spectrum of human behavior comes to play as teams plan their course of action, manage their resources and chart their progress in the game while keeping a close eye on the competition. An immersive activity with option for full dress play and in-depth debrief on various sales-related issues.

Learning elements – Accountability, adaptability, clarity, commitment, communication, creativity, decision making, esprit de corps, focus, integrity, leadership, organizing skills, ownership, planning, presentation skills, proactivity, problem solving, rapport / trust, resourcefulness, rigor and team effectiveness.

People to People

Participants stand in a circle and are paired in twos. If there is an even number of participants, the trainer assumes the role of the person in the center of the circle. If the number is odd, the participant without a partner assumes the role of the person in the center of the circle. The person in the center will call out certain instructions. Upon listening to these instructions, all pairs must act out the relevant instructions. Some time along giving these instructions, a key phrase is mentioned. Upon listening to this key phrase, participants must now separate from their partners and find a new partner across the circle. Another person without a partner will now find themselves in the center of the circle. The process repeats. Excellent as an energizer to break physical boundary and establish permission for more physical activities to follow.

Learning elements – Adaptability, decision making, focus, integrity, openness, proactivity, rapport / trust and rigor.

Grand Rollercoaster

This activity is designed as a follow up to Rollercoaster. Instead of an individual team activity, this is now turned into an overall group activity. All teams come together with their Rollercoasters and combine them as one Grand Rollercoaster. This challenging activity promotes a high level of leadership and requires a great degree of teamwork. Most appropriate for closing ranks.

Learning elements – Accountability, adaptability, collaboration, commitment, communication, creativity, decision making, esprit de corps, focus, leadership, organizing skills, ownership, planning, presentation skills, problem solving, resourcefulness, responsibility, rigor and team effectiveness.

Human Caterpillar

Teams are given specific resources to use in order to complete a strategic task. Once the ‘caterpillar’ is constructed, team members must work in unison to get all team members to the safe zone in their design. A little too much pull and it will break the team. A little too much push and the whole team comes crashing down. Who will lead? Who will follow? Witness chaos as teams try to work together as one. Eventually, they will find their rhythm. Once that is established, witness harmony in motion. This is a visual process and highly entertaining yet full of discovery. This is a fully outdoor process.

Learning elements – Accountability, adaptability, commitment, communication, creativity, decision making, esprit de corps, focus, leadership, openness, organizing skills, ownership, planning, proactivity, problem solving, rapport / trust, resourcefulness, responsibility, rigor and team effectiveness.

Kung Fu Power

Participants stand in their respective teams and design their unique 3-step kung fu stance. Once all teams are ready, a team is picked at random to commence the challenge. The starting team has to demonstrate their stance before indicating the next team to continue the challenge. The second team, once indicated, has to demonstrate the first team’s stance before they demonstrate theirs. Once done, they will indicate the next team to continue. The third team has to demonstrate the first and second teams’ stances before they demonstrate their own. This goes on until a team gets the sequence and stance mixed-up. Robust and fun! Excellent as an energizer to break physical boundaries and establish permission for more physical activities to follow. This can be tweaked as a fully outdoor process.

Learning elements – Clarity, communication, focus, openness, rapport / trust and self-awareness.

Sniper

Teams strategize amongst themselves and decide who will be their sniper to take down the opposing teams’ snipers. They can use any available resources but these resources cannot come into contact with their opponents. Teams will soon realize the importance of planning and creativity in the midst of solving their problems at hand. At times, dwindling resources for one team will bring out the best in people. At other times, teams will find complacency creeping in when they are on a winning streak. Watch teams progress from passive play to active and creative play as they outwit and outshoot each other in their quest to become sniper kings. A great activity to get to know team members and excellent for context setting as well as an evening activity.

Learning elements – Adaptability, creativity, decision making, esprit de corps, focus, leadership, organizing skills, ownership, planning, proactivity, resourcefulness, rigor and team effectiveness.

Tai Chi on The Park

Participants are taken to the great outdoors during early sunrise. They take turns to be Tai Chi masters, each time one of them leading the rest in performing a unique series of light stretching exercises. The number of rotations will be dependent on the weather conditions as well as the real-time of the day.

Learning elements – Clarity, focus, openness and self-awareness.

Squid Game

Adapted from the famous Korean show, teams enter into a competitive arena where they compete with each other through a series of intense and outrageous activities fashioned after Netflix’s Squid Game. Each activity takes after an actual game in the show discipline but with a creative twist to the mechanics. During the brief, teams are introduced to the available activities located in various stations spread throughout the arena. After the brief, teams have to strategize amongst themselves on their game plan. Because teams are made up of people with various skills and talent, they will decide how best to maximize their success by assigning different team members to handle different challenges. Through the teams’ decisions and choices, the players bring forth their respective talents as they vie to win the activities for their respective teams. Everyone gets to be involved in something they are good at. When the starting signal is given, the fun begins!

This activity requires all team members to be literally hands-on while making the difference to have the team win. Everyone will discover, and deeply appreciate, that there is strength in diversity. No matter how little or how much is the contribution, it does make a collective difference in the overall results. This activity is conceptualized based on the principle that the total is always greater than the sum of all parts.

Learning elements – Accountability, adaptability, clarity, commitment, communication, creativity, decision making, esprit de corps, focus, integrity, leadership, organizing skills, ownership, planning, presentation skills, proactivity, problem solving, rapport / trust, resourcefulness, rigor and team effectiveness

Fly-on-The-Wall

An effective model in giving and receiving feedback is teed-up. Once the teams have a deeper understanding of the feedback model, they then proceed to apply and practice what they learned. Team members are positioned in a specific circular arrangement, whereby there will be one person facing out of the circle while the rest face in. As the facilitator cues the start of the process, team members who are facing in the circle starts a conversation amongst themselves about the person who is seated facing out. They start by talking about all the good things about the person. Then, upon the facilitator’s cue, they proceed to talk about how they wish the person could improve on certain things. Once the first cycle is completed, the next person now seats facing out while the previous person now seats facing in. The process is repeated until everyone has experienced being the ‘Fly-On-The-Wall’.

Learning elements – Adaptability, clarity, collaboration, commitment, communication, decision making, espirit de corps, focus, leadership, openness, ownership, proactivity, rapport / trust, responsibility, self-awareness and team effectiveness.

WOW Factors - Inter Department

WOW Factors is a powerful activity to drive home the value of contribution. We take on an interesting journey to explore how we can do more to be part of a high performing team, over and above the call of duty. Participants discover exactly how their contributions measure up to the other teams’ overall standards of excellence. What if your best contribution is only a basic experience to others? What else can you do to create an outstanding experience for others? What else is holding you back from being truly in contribution to others? What is that gap we need to close to be truly a high performing organization? This activity leads to social contracts that are powerfully owned by individuals and openly supported by peers.

Learning elements – Accountability, clarity, collaboration, commitment, communication, decision making, esprit de corps, focus, integrity, leadership, openness, ownership, proactivity, rapport / trust, responsibility and self-awareness.
