ALPHA Automotive Sales – Customer-Led Dealership Sales

Help your dealership team understand customer needs, present suitable vehicles and agree clear next steps.

A customer’s vehicle choice depends on more than specifications. Their driving habits, passengers, priorities, budget and decision process all shape what is suitable for them.

This two-day programme helps dealership teams structure their sales conversations using ALPHA: Attract, Leverage, Present, Handle and Action. Participants practise moving from a relevant showroom welcome to a needs-led vehicle recommendation and an agreed next step.

Who this programme is for

  • Automotive Sales Consultants who welcome customers, explore needs, present vehicles and manage follow-up.
  • Sales Team Leaders and Managers who coach customer conversations, test drives and pipeline discipline.
  • Product Specialists who explain and compare vehicles.
  • Customer Experience Hosts who welcome visitors and connect them with the appropriate consultant.

Duration: 2 days

What participants will learn

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Analyse customer conversations using ALPHA and identify the next appropriate move.
  • Explore driving patterns, passenger needs, safety priorities, vehicle preferences, budget, financing readiness and the decision process.
  • Match verified needs to a suitable vehicle, test drive, finance discussion, trade-in assessment or no-sale response.
  • Deliver a five-minute vehicle presentation and walkaround using accurate, approved specifications, benefits and limitations.
  • Agree a clear, voluntary next action, such as a test drive, quotation, finance check, trade-in assessment or follow-up appointment.

Why this matters for your organisation

A vehicle presentation is more relevant when it starts with an understanding of the customer. This programme gives dealership teams a shared approach to exploring needs, explaining suitable options and managing questions with accurate information.

It also provides a consistent basis for managers to observe and coach customer conversations, helping teams maintain clarity, customer choice and disciplined follow-up.

What the two-day programme covers

Day 1: Attract, Leverage and Present the Right Vehicle

1. Current State of Selling and ALPHA

Review current dealership habits, identify where customer conversations lose relevance or momentum, and learn the five ALPHA stages.

Practice activity: Map and rebuild an automotive sales conversation, identifying missing questions and checks.

2. Attract Through the Showroom Welcome

Practise relevant openings that give customers space to explain their purpose and earn permission to explore their needs.

Practice activity: Rehearse the first 60 seconds of a showroom conversation with different customer types.

3. Leverage Customer Needs

Use neutral questions to understand driving patterns, passengers, priorities, budget, financing, trade-in position, timing and decision makers.

Practice activity: Conduct a needs conversation in a consultant, customer and observer role play.

4. Present the Right Vehicle

Connect verified customer needs with approved vehicle information and explain suitable options in plain language.

Practice activity: Match responses to customer cases and deliver a five-minute needs-linked presentation.

Day 2: Present with Rapport, Handle Questions and Agree Action

Opening practice: ALPHA Automotive Pitch Clinic

Revisit the first three ALPHA stages, rebuild a customer conversation and refine one behaviour using peer feedback.

5. Present with Rapport and a Walkaround

Plan a walkaround and test-drive briefing around the customer’s priorities. Adapt the pace and detail in response to their questions and cues.

Practice activity: Deliver a buyer-led walkaround and test-drive briefing, with feedback on relevance, accuracy, listening, safety and understanding.

6. Handle Questions and Comparisons

Clarify concerns about price, affordability, specifications, availability, trade-ins, warranties and competing models. Respond using approved information and check understanding.

Practice activity: Rehearse responses to customer questions through timed role plays.

7. Agree the Next Automotive Action

Select a next step that reflects the customer’s readiness and required checks. Agree what happens next, who is responsible and when it will happen.

Practice activity: Complete a full customer conversation role play and create a 30-day action plan.

Practical learning and follow-through

The programme combines dealership simulations, short practice rounds, vehicle case labs and rotating consultant, customer and observer role plays.

Participants use an ALPHA scorecard for feedback and a 30-day action tracker to apply their learning. Managers observe two customer conversations within 30 days and hold a coaching conversation with each participant.

What to bring: One approved vehicle fact pack and one anonymised customer conversation or quotation follow-up.

The programme supports the dealer’s approved specifications, price lists, finance processes, consumer disclosures, safety rules and conduct requirements.
